The Web Review is getting a new Face

It's not every day that you get to meet someone quite as talented as our new team member.

Echo from Echoia.Com is going to be joining us to help take The Web Review to the Next Level.

That's right, we're getting a new face, and in more way's than one! In a top secret meeting today, arrangements were made for what will hopefully be the most important meeting of minds since Bonnie met Clyde, or Harry met Sally!

Our readership is on the exponential incline and The Web Review is getting its first overhall.

We're still looking for more writers, so if you think you've got talent, please send your CV and blog address to thewebreview@uk2.net

The Web 2.0 Validator

I've got to be honest there are a lot of attention seekers out there, most of whom just can't resist a ride on the web 2.0 band wagon and this has got be a prime example of such a gimmick. Don't get me wrong, it's a sweet idea in concept but it's still a gimmick.

Take a look at http://web2.0validator.com/

The site attempts to score and validate a site by checking it against a number of user suggested criteria.

These of which include:

Uses inline AJAX?
Attempts to be XHTML Strict?
Uses Cascading Style Sheets?

All of which seem to be sensible validators until:

Has a Blogline blogroll?
Has that goofy 'My Blog is Worth' link?
References isometric.sixsided.org?

plus many more pointless descriptors.

And to sum up it's total worth:

flickr.com gets a 4 out of 42
gmail.com creates and error.

Google Pack at Google Labs

Two posts on Google in one day, aren't they lucky. When it comes to philanthropy Google have my vote, no single company have done so much for so little, to better the web. I would like to give Larry Page, Eric Schmidt and Sergey Brin a pat on the back and should I ever get the chance of meeting them, maybe one day they'll come do an interview for us! (Larry if you're reading this!)

For those googleites like myself there is no single page on google more interesting than www.labs.google.com. Google Labs is the playground of all those lucky geniuses at Google and boy do they have some fun. It is where many of the features and utilities we enjoy today started there life. Most recently was Google Earth, for me Google's greatest donation to this global community, purchasing what originaly was known as Keyhole costing some thousands of dollars and licence and then giving it free.
